Well the girls have been with us a month now. Still no eggs which is a little disappointing, but may be due to the nights drawing in. I am beginning to wonder if we will get any before next spring at this rate. Rhys has a plan, "if you stand a hatchet next to the coop they will start laying Mam" not sure where he gets his information but sounds a bit cruel to me...
I have modified my routine a little over the past couple of weeks. I now turn over the ground in the evening, replenish the water and get all food dishes out ready for the morning. The soil under the run will be fantastic for the garden, I have never seen so many small worms, where do they come from and how do they know to burrow there? As the nights have started to draw in the girls now put themselves to bed each night. They give me a reassuring cluck as I go down to pull up the drawbridge and seem only too happy to tuck themselves in.
I have been making mash for them as a treat, I found the recipe on another site, but you can just through about anything in. Its very easy and they love it, it also smells like a rich veg stew, which everyone thinks is for them, until they see the meal worms bobbing about!
Eric has started to make bread again, but by hand not the machine, so far we have had 3 massive loaves and they are really lovely. Bread and cheese or toast and jam with tea, a big favourite on baking day.
I have been making things too. When we were on holiday recently I collected some sea glass. I was able to knit it into some bracelets and pendants. Just for my own enjoyment really but people seem to like them.
Here is one I made earlier...
Also I got some Fimo clay last week too. Its a bithday coming up for my niece Ava, she loves dancing so I got her some real ballet shoes, a tutu and all the bits, to go with it I made this.
Its first attempt so don't laugh too much, but they can only get better I think.
